Abstract

The article presents the main concepts of fuzzy logic and its use in the analysis of investment alternatives for the economic improvement of a Brazilian metallurgical company. By embodying subjective requirements such as “low, middle, high, very high return on investment”, “low, middle, high improvement of capacity utilization of the factory”, the study case shows the use of human subjectivity in selecting investment alternatives. Finally, a prototype of the software MERHU – Module for Emulation of Human Reasoning – is presented as a tool for alternative selection by means of fuzzy logic. Keywords: Fuzzy logic; Economic engineering; investment analysis.
