Abstract

A DEA application is presented to the evaluation of graduation programs in order to simplify the quantitative stage of the process. A product-oriented CCR model is applied with a Warranty Region that implements restriction to the weights to the products, in two stages, with two products (outputs): titled and scientific production. And an input: faculty, by using Mechanical Engineering and Production Engineering program data. The results suggest that Mechanical Engineering and Production Engineering are distinct groups. The two-stage analysis was useful to identify “outstanding” programs that can be related to grade 6 or 7, in order to identify the potential programs for grade 5, as well as to relate the “benchmarks” to continuous improvement of the programs having inferior performance. The Pearson’s correlation analysis between scores and grades resulted in statistically significant values (0.01) of 0.630 to the program set and of 0.857 to Mechanical Engineering. As a main conclusion, the results suggest that the adoption of DEA, with the adopted formulation, produces a simplification in a quantitative part of the current evaluation.
